UC Berkeley: Condemn the glorification of terrorists

A UC Berkeley student group has put up a campus display glorifying terrorists:

– Leila Khaled, who hijacked planes
– Fatima Bernawi, who tried to bomb a crowded movie theater
– Rasmea Odeh, who helped murder Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner, two Jewish students in Israel

The student government officially refused to condemn this display. While the administration called it “an affront”, their statement on the issue was deeply problematic.

Demand that UC Berkeley unequivocally oppose the glorification of terrorism.

Dear Chancellor Christ,
As someone who believes in both free speech and student safety, I am deeply concerned about your administration's response regarding the Bears for Palestine display glorifying terrorists.
You stated that the display is "an affront" to your principles of community while comparing it to a hateful comment about Palestinians made by an individual student. This is a false equivalence.
The entire organized Jewish community at Berkeley condemned the anti-Palestinian rhetoric mentioned in your statement. On the other hand, the display belongs to a university-recognized organization that continues to use student government space to spread hate.
I urge you to publicly acknowledge this crucial difference and unequivocally condemn the glorification of violence against Israelis and Jews. Please put politics aside and do the right thing.
Sincerely,
